Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrival in Jukkasjärvi / Optional Northern Lights tours

Arrival in Kiruna according to your own itinerary followed by transfer to the Ice Hotel. The Ice Hotel is situated in the small village of Jukkasjärvi in Swedish Lapland, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. The story of Ice Hotel starts already in 1989 when it became the world’s first and largest hotel made of ice and snow. Each year artists from all over the world gathers to create the Ice Hotel built from huge blocks of ice from the nearby frozen Torne River. The seasonal Ice Hotel usually opens in the middle of December but some building work may continue into early January where guests can watch the creation of this masterpiece. In 2016, the Ice Hotel introduced Icehotel 365, located next to the Ice Hotel. It has the same standard, same interior shape and visual design as the original Ice Hotel, but is a permanent structure. The hotel has over 50 rooms built each year from snow and crystal clear ice and you will also find an ice chapel, an ice art exhibition hall, a cinema and the ice bar. The interior temperature is always between -5°C to -8°C, even when it gets up to -37°C outside.
This evening we recommend joining one of the Northern Lights tours. Overnight at Kaamos Hotel (warm accommodation) next to the Ice Hotel.

DAY 2 Optional winter activities / Overnight at the Ice Hotel

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure. We recommend joining one of the winter activities such as dog sledding, where you can experience driving your own team of huskies, a snow mobile safari or rent cross country skies or snowshoeing equipment and head off on your own. In the evening, guests can choose to dine at the Ice Hotel Restaurant, awarded with the prestigious Werner Vögeli Statuette and featured in gourmet magazines around the world. Alternatively, dine at the authentic and charming Old Homestead Restaurant 800 meters away from the Ice Hotel, which offers a rustic á la carte menu and overlooking the Torne River. Tonight you will stay at the Ice Hotel, in rooms furnished with furniture made from ice and snow. You will sleep in a thermal sleeping bag on comfortable reindeer skins in a special bed built of snow and ice.

DAY 3 Travel from Jukkasjärvi to the Treehotel in Harads

In the morning you will wake up to a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside. Take a walk to the sauna to warm up before breakfast is served at the restaurant located next to the Ice Hotel. After lunch you will be transferred to the train station in Kiruna for your onward 3,5 hour scenic train journey to Boden. From Boden train station you will travel by taxi (included) for 30 minutes into the boreal forest of Swedish Lapland.

The Treehotel is located in Harads, near the Lule River. The village has a population of about 600 people and it features a restaurant, shop and guest house. When you arrive at the Treehotel, you will check in at Britta’s Guest House. From here it is a short stroll through the beautiful nature to your tree room. The eco-friendly Treehotel consists of seven rooms, each designed by a different Swedish architect, nestled between 4 to 6 metres up in the pines. Here you can enjoy the quiet, timelessness and harmony that are found in the tree and the surroundings. In winter, you can hire snow shoes, cross country skies or a kick sled and explore the surroundings on your own. You can also join a guided tour of the Treehotel or you can relax at the Tree Sauna (at a supplement). Britta’s Guest House has an authentic 1930-50’s setting and offers a restaurant, bar, sauna, TV, and internet. Accommodation in a tree room.
