Day 1: Cartagena, Colombia

Welcome to Cartagena!

Upon arrival to the airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation and have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Cartagena, Colombia

Today you will explore the city!

We will pick you up at your accommodation between 13:20 and 14:00, the tour is scheduled from 14:30 to 18:00.

During your city tour, you will enjoy the main tourist attractions in Cartagena, which is also known as the “Pearl of the Caribbean”. It is the main destination for culture and history. In 1984 Cartagena was declared a World Culture Heritage by UNESCO. The city combines an impressive, modern and colonial architecture created by the Spanish and it preserves the past and the memories of the struggles of that time.

You will also have the opportunity to visit two monuments which are of great historical value outside the old city, San Felipe de Barajas which is a fortress in order to defend the city and the church of San Pedro Claver.

Day 3: Cartagena, Colombia

You will be picked-up from your accommodation and transferred to the famous Totumo Volcano. The minerals in the mud are said to have therapeutic qualities – whether the Volcano will actually cure your ailments is unclear, but it definitely makes your skin feel great.

Climb up and inside this small volcano and jump into the natural mud that lies within to enjoy a relaxing and hilarious experience swimming with your tour mates. After the mud bath, enjoy a delicious lunch with local food.

After having some time to relax, you will be transferred back to your accommodation in Cartagena.

Day 4: Cartagena - Santa Marta, Colombia

Today after your check-out at your accommodation, you will take a bus to Santa Marta.

Make your own way to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure!

Day 5: Santa Marta - El Mamey - Camp 1, Colombia

Today you will start your trek to the Lost City!

On the first day, we will pick you up at your hotel to start an adventurous 2 1/2 hour drive by 4×4 to the small countryside town of Mamey.

After having lunch, we’ll set off for a hike taking about 3 hours to reach our first sleeping area. The overall climb on the first day is about 520 meters with regular snack breaks and a hearty meal by candlelight when you reach your destination.

Teyuna is a sacred place for Native people, please remember to respect the past and the customs of the town: Respect the privacy of farmers and Indians, do not come into their houses or take pictures without asking them first. Take into account that this is a raining, humid and temperate zone with cold nights between 18° and 22°. Please take just the essential stuff; the weight of your backpack is an important factor for your comfort. Bring all the garbage back to Santa Marta; the Park and the zone don’t have garbage recollection service.

Inside the park there is no signal for mobile phones, so let your family and friends know that you will have communication once you get back to Santa Marta. Please follow the guide’s recommendations. (7-kilometer trek; 4 hours approx)

Day 6: Camp 1 - Camp 3, Colombia

The day begins and we have breakfast early in the morning, then we start to walk by the riverside of Buritaca River where we’ll find plenty of houses which make part of a Kogi indigenous village called Mutanshi.

Our trek during the day will take about 7 hours going through the jungle of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and enjoying the biodiversity to finally reach the third camp (equipped with hammocks, beds and tents) where we’ll have a delicious dinner and rest after an adventurous day.

(14.7-kilometer trek; 7 hours approx.)

Day 7: Camp 3 - Lost City - Camp 2, Colombia

Wake up for an early breakfast before starting climbing up 1.200 steps to our main destination, a trail constructed by Tayrona people to reach the beautiful Lost City.

Once we get there, the guide will show us everything related to this magic place full of relics and ancestral stories. We’ll spend the morning enjoying the landscapes and having enough time to rest and take pictures. Nestled on the slopes of the Rio Buritaca river valley, the site overlooks the region from 1,300 meters above sea level. Here you will have magnificent views overlooking the dense jungle and rugged terrain.

After the site visit, we’ll have lunch at Camp 3 and then go back to Camp 2, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night. (6-kilometer trek; 7 hours approx.)

Day 8: Camp 2 - Camp 1, Colombia

Have an early breakfast today and hit the trail for a 10-kilometer return trek to camp 1 crossing back over the Buritaca River and passing through the indigenous community of Mutanshi along the way.

Enjoy the fresh jungle air and spectacular scenery as you make your way to camp 1, where you will get settled in, have dinner and get a good night’s rest. (10-kilometer trek; 4 hours approx.)

Day 9: Camp 1 - El Mamey - Santa Marta, Colombia

The last day of this adventure begins with breakfast at camp 1.

Trek back another 7 kilometres today as you make your way back to the starting point of your trek in El Mamey, where you will have lunch and be transferred back to Santa Marta by car, arriving around 5:00pm completely delighted by a lifetime experience in the magic Sierra Nevada.

Once in Santa Marta, you’ll have the opportunity to rest and spend the night in your selected accommodation. (7-kilometer trek; 4 hours approx.)

Day 10: Santa Marta - Riohacha, Colombia

Today after your check-out at your accommodation, you will take a bus to Riohacha.

Make your own way to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure!

Day 11: Riohacha - Cabo de la Vela, Colombia

At around 5:00am, you will be picked-up from your accommodation in Riohacha to begin your trip towards Cabo de la Vela.

Along the way, you will visit Uribia, the indigenous capital of La Guajira, where upon arrival after a 1-hour ride, you will embark on a city tour, getting to know this important cultural centre: Wayúu.

After enjoying breakfast, you will start your trip to one of the most famous places of La Guajira: Salinas de Manaure. It will be a journey of about 20 minutes by car. In Salinas de Manaure you will visit the ponds where, in an artisanal way, they extract and process salt; during this tour, you will enjoy the company of a community leader. La Guajira is also famous for its indigenous market of Wayuu handicrafts and clothing, that is why, you will also visit a backpack and chinchorros (traditional Wayúu hammock) weaving enterprise. You will have time to share with the community in the Wualapuinje rancheria, where you will discover their rituals, customs, traditional dance, besides tasting a sample of typical food of the Wayuú community.

Afterwards, you will continue your journey in a 2-hour drive to Cabo de La Vela. Upon arrival, you will have lunch at the Utta ethno tourism lodge before continuing with your visit to Pilón de Azúcar, sacred place of the Wayuú community.

You will have time to rest on the beaches of Dorada and Ojo de Agua while you admire the fantastic sunset before going back to the rancheria.

Day 12: Punta Gallina, Colombia

After having an early breakfast, it is time to start your 2-hour trip to the Taroa Dunes where you will picture orange sand dunes, cactuses and other desert-like vegetation right in front of beautiful, turquoise, typical Caribbean water. Then you will visit the Punta Gallinas’ lighthouse, where you will hear local stories about this place while enjoying a great landscape, since you are in the northernmost point of South America.

You will continue your journey to La Boquita Bay, famous for its pristine beaches. There you will be accommodated in a native inn, basic but pleasant, considering the isolation and conditions of the area. At the inn you will have lunch and then you will visit the islets of La Boquita and Bahía Hondita, to culminate in Punta Aguja Silver enjoying the majestic guajiro sunset.

Back to the inn, you will participate in a Wayúu weaving activity to later enjoy dinner and rest before your last day of the tour.

Day 13: Punta Gallina - Riohacha, Colombia

Around 07:00hrs you will be transferred to Riohacha.

You will have the day at your leisure and spend the night there.

Day 14: Riohacha - Santa Marta, Colombia

After your check-out, you will take a public bus to Santa Marta, once there, you will be picked up by one of our representatives who will drive you to the airport.
