Itinerary

DAY 1

8:15 – 9:00am: Pick up from San Francisco hotels

8:15 – 10:15am: After pickup, head north across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the city skyline. We wind through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands, past Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument.

10:30 – 11:45am: Arrive at Muir Woods National Monument. The coastal redwood is the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months. In 1908, Senator William Kent and his wife donated their land to the state, and President Theodore Roosevelt designated it as a federally protected area. Muir Woods National Monument is the only surviving stand of old-growth redwood forest in the Bay Area. You will have 1 – 1 1/2 hours to wander amongst these towering giants. The sights, sounds, and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world that was almost lost.

12:00 – 1:30pm: Reconnect with the guide and group, and begin your journey to the Sonoma Wine County. Traveling north, you will see the beautiful valleys where fantastic wines have been produced since before California was a part of the Union. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of grapevines is impressive and provides a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.

1:30pm: Stop for a picnic lunch at a winery (not included), or grab a bite in the historic Sonoma town square.

2:30 – 5:00pm: Spend the afternoon wine tasting around the Sonoma wine country. Sample a variety of white, red, and dessert wines at wineries such as Homewood, Larson, Peter Cellars, and Robledo, among others (some tasting fees may apply).

5:00pm onward: After a drop-off at your hotel, you’ll have the evening to do as you wish! Your hotel is walking-distance from many restaurants and wine tasting rooms.

DAY 2

10:30am: Reconvene with your driver and group for the second day of tasting!

11:00 – 12:00pm: Arrive at Benziger Family Winery. Enjoy a close-up look at the vineyards, fermentation facility, and crush pad on a comfortable fully-guided tram tour. You’ll also have a chance to walk through their barrel caves! The tour is approximately 45 minutes long, and includes a special tasting of Benziger’s biodynamic and other award-winning wines.

12:00 – 1:00pm: After your tasting, enjoy your picnic lunch (included) in a quiet spot at one of the local wineries, surrounded by views of the beautiful countryside and vineyards.

1:00 – 5:00pm: In the afternoon, you will head over to Benziger’s sister winery Imagery for another take on California wine-making. Then, head out to famed Napa County for more wine tasting in Oakville, Yountville, or in the town of Napa. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of wine grapes is impressive and will provide a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.

5:00 – 6:00pm: On the return trip, you’ll make one more photo stop above the Golden Gate Bridge – a must-do if you’ve never witnessed the awe-inspiring view of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands!
