Itinerary

Day 1

From stunning beaches and the Great Barrier Reef to tropical rainforests and laidback cities, discover it all and more on a coastal rail journey.

Travel on the Spirit of Queensland to uncover the hidden treasures and must-sees of Queensland’s coastline. The Spirit of Queensland takes you along Queensland’s coast between Brisbane and Cairns, covering over 1681 kilometres. Travel in comfort while enjoying modern conveniences and friendly services.

Stop along the way and experience the amazing diversity and colours of Queensland’s coastal towns. Explore the town of Hervey Bay or enjoy the white sandy beaches of Fraser Island. Discover the islands of the Whitsundays and soak up the vibrant village atmosphere of Airlie Beach. See where rainforest meets the reef in Tropical North Queensland.

Wherever you’re heading along the coast, the Spirit of Queensland will have you relaxed from the moment you step onboard until you arrive at your destination.

Spend time in the Galley Car with fellow travellers where a range of light refreshments can be purchased throughout the journey.

Day 2

After your rail experience arrive in Cairns at 4:30pm and get transferred from the train station to your accommodation (either in Cairns, Palm Cove or Port Douglas)

Day 3: Great Barrier Reef Adventure with lunch

Escape into a world of surprises to experience the breath-taking beauty of the Outer Great Barrier Reef.

The stable reef activity platform is the perfect base for swimmers and non-swimmers to explore. Snorkel and/or dive, visit the underwater observatory, cruise in a semi-sub, or just relax on the sundeck with a delicious buffet lunch. Join us and the Great Barrier Reef’s vibrant marine life for a voyage into one of the natural wonders of the world.

In addition to the activities included in your tour, there is also a wide range of optional activities to experience on our Outer Great Barrier Reef activity platform. Scuba dive, join a snorkel tour, Scuba Doo below the waves or enjoy the Great Barrier Reef for the air with a scenic helicopter tour.

Day 4: Kuranda, Skyrail and Scenic Rail.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway takes you on a fascinating journey of discovery over and deep into Australia’s Wet Tropics World Heritage listed rainforest.

Glide mere metres above the pristine rainforest canopy before descending to explore the forest floor at Red Peak and Barron Falls. Enjoy complimentary ranger guided tours, the Rainforest Discovery Zone, The Edge Lookout, the Historical Precinct and the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre to fully immerse yourself in the unique sights, sounds, smells and feel of the rainforest.

Board the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway as it meanders its way between Cairns and Kuranda. Opened in 1891, this famous railway ascends from the coastal plains of Cairns through Freshwater Railway Station and on to Kuranda, the Village in the Rainforest, some 328 metres (1,076 feet) above sea level.

Your historic journey in fully refurbished vintage carriages includes English commentary and a short photo opportunity stop at Barron Falls.

Day 5

Visit the World Heritage Rainforest on this Advanced Eco Tour to Cape Tribulation, The Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge.
